What is ETIM xChange?
ETIM xChange is the official exchange format for ETIM-classified product data. It's a structured file format (XML or JSON) that carries product articles with their ETIM class, features, values, and media. It's the standardized way to send ETIM data between manufacturers, wholesalers, and data pools.
How it relates to BMEcat
BMEcat and ETIM xChange are both catalog exchange formats, but ETIM xChange is specifically designed around the ETIM classification model. BMEcat is more general and can carry ETIM data as classification references. Some buyers accept either; others specifically require ETIM xChange.
Why it matters
If your buyer or data pool requires ETIM-classified data, they likely want it in ETIM xChange format. Getting the format wrong — even if your classification is correct — means manual rework or rejection. The format requires strict adherence to the ETIM schema including correct feature codes, value codes, and unit references.
