What is GS1?
GS1 is the global standards organization responsible for barcodes (GTINs), location codes (GLNs), and data exchange standards. They manage the numbering system behind every barcode and the standards for sharing product data across supply chains.
What is GDSN?
GDSN (Global Data Synchronization Network) is GS1's network for exchanging standardized product data between trading partners. Suppliers publish product data to a certified data pool, and retailers/distributors subscribe to receive it. It ensures both parties work with the same, verified product information.
When it matters
GDSN is primarily used in retail and FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods). If your customers are major retailers (Carrefour, Tesco, Walmart), they likely require GDSN-synchronized data. For industrial distribution and B2B, ETIM/BMEcat is more common, but some larger distributors are adopting GS1 standards for procurement.
How FacetFlux helps
FacetFlux validates GS1 identifiers (GTINs, GLNs) during import and can structure product data for GDSN data pool publication alongside ETIM/BMEcat exports.
